KANTHA QUILTS Sourced & made ethically in Jodhpur, India
Kantha meaning "patched cloth" pronounced ‘Khan-taa’ is a form of embroidery practiced by rural women from South East Asia predominately in the neighbouring Indian states of West Bengal and Odisha.
For as many as 500 centuries these woman have sewn together scrap cloth with what they call a Kantha stitch "a simple running thread."
It was created out of pure necessity, the most basic need: to keep warm.
To take something old and discarded and turn it into something new, useful and beautiful is a wonderful and very powerful act, an act I hope we can all introduce more of into our daily lives.
